Julia Brierley

Julia is a Co-Founder and Principal of Sydney Dispute Resolution. She assists families and organisations in her roles as mediator, Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and Collaborative coach. Julia has been named in the Doyle’s Guide as a Leading Family Law Mediator in NSW for the past five years. Julia believes that creating a safe space for each person to be heard and understood is the best way to preserve important family relationships and avoid costly and stressful litigation.

A specialist in family mediation, Julia is committed to providing a confidential, compassionate and child-centred approach to resolving parenting disputes. She has many years’ experience working with families going through separation and divorce, including managing complex cases at Family Relationship Centres and Legal Aid NSW. Julia works alongside leading family lawyers to assist clients in legally-assisted property mediations and Collaborative matters to reach financial settlement without going to court. Julia is authorised to issue Section 60I certificates.

With postgraduate qualifications in dispute resolution, couple and family therapy and child development, Julia is recognised for her strong focus on the needs of the whole family. She offers professional supervision, mentoring and coaching for mediators, FDR Practitioners and early career lawyers, and regularly coaches and assesses candidates for AMDRAS and FDR accreditation at the College of Law.

In recognition of her leadership and long career helping families reach better outcomes, Julia was awarded Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (Family Mediator) of the Year at the 2025 Australian Disputes Centre Awards.
